Adaptive State Capitalism in the Indian Coal Industry (Dissertation) June 2012 - Present

Book length project on the Indian coal sector from 1960-2015, focusing on the evolution of Indian state capitalism and the political economy of the industry. Conducted 15 months of cumulative field visits to coal mining regions (all Coal India subsidiaries) speaking to mining engineers, Coal India management, private companies, local politicians and mining labour. Reconstructed historical regional mining data using archival data from libraries in Kolkata, Dhanbad and Ranchi. Advised by Lakshmi Iyer, Lant Pritchett, Elizabeth Perry, Ryan Sheely and Jose Gomez-Ibañez. Currently revising into a book manuscript.
